GenVet Alzen
Albendazole belongs to the methylcarbamate group of benzimidazoles (BZDs) which are highly efficient against lungworms and larval stages of most gastrointestinal nematodes. BZDs interfere with the target parasites by altering microtubule functions such as cell division, cell shape maintenance, cell motility & secretion, nutrient absorption, & intracellular transport through binding with the microtubule inhibitor colchicine. Due to its limited water solubility, albendazole has slower dissolution rate, passage along the GI tract and systemic absorption, resulting to its greater anthelminthic potency than other highly water-soluble BZDs. This property is highly beneficial in ruminant digestive physiology.
Formulation
Each mL contains 11.25% Albendazole.
Indications
Albendazole is indicated for the following GIT infestations:
• Abomasal and intestinal nematodes (adults and 4th stage-larvae)
• Tapeworms (heads and segments)
• Lungworms (adult and larval stages)
• Liver flukes (adult stage)
• Giardia spp. in calves
Dosage and Administration
Administer the suspension orally using a plastic pump or a drench.
Cattle and Carabao: 1 mL per 11.25 kg body weight.
Sheep and Goat: 1 mL per 15 kg body weight.
Precaution
Albendazole is not recommended for use during the early stages of gestation in cows (45 days) and ewes (30 days) due to reported teratogenic effects. High fiber diets given during Albendazole treatment may increase ingesta passage in the GIT, thus lowering the drug exposure.
